I'm a webmaster!
Today is my first day on the job with the Harris County Public Library. This job is going to be so fun! First of all, I show up and find that I have a nice sized office that I share with a cool co-worker. I've got a 17'' flat panel monitor on my desk with a brand new Dell computer equiped with a P4 2.8GHz processor and 512 MB of memory. Next to that is my new Dell Latitude Notebook that sports a 2.39GHz processor and 512MB of memory. Holy Crap, I was working on a P2 500 at idea, this set up (at a government job mind you) blows away what I've been working on. Oh, I almost forgot, they also gave me a new HP color printer as well as a new HP scanner.
The software is even leghit! I've got a brand new personal copy of macromedia's studio mx, Adobe's Photoshop 7, Illustrator 10, Acrobat 6, and GoLive. Incredible!
The perks don't stop there. This however may not be a perk to you, but it is to me... I got to order office supplies! Anything I wanted! That is so sweet.
Now, all this stuff is just superficial, let me get down to the meat and potatos of the job. I've already been tasked with making site-wide changes to the current site, as well as designing and creating a new site directed towards teens. I'll get to write database apps with web front-ends in perl, do graphics work, program HTML and CSS. It's great, the stuff they want me to do is going to be so fun. I can't wait to get started.
Don't listen to the person that tells you that government jobs suck.
